HP Omen Max 16 Gaming Laptop 16z-ak000, 64GB 5600MT/s RAM, AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 (Radeon 860M) 2 GHz CPU. When I try to start memtest86, it gets stuck similar to the attached image. Screen simply says "CPU: 0, State" with a spinner. I've let this sit for over 3 hours and screen never changes. I also set CPU test from parallel to single CPU and selected a random CPU, but memtest does not start. Not sure how to proceed.

Will almost surely be a UEFI BIOS bug. Or a smaller chance it is a hardware failure.
But I am wondering if it is in fact running, but the bug related to just the display. i.e. the text that should be on the screen is being displayed off screen.
If it is running there should be a debug log created on the USB drive.

This system has integrated Radeon 860M graphics, and a dedicated RTX 5070Ti GPU. Perhaps the two GPUs is confusing memtest.

Yes, log shows the tests were in fact still running.

So very likely some type of display bug in this UEFI BIOS.
So you could just check the log from the 3h run, and look in the log to confirm the "cumulative error count" value is 0.

Thanks for the tips, David. You are right that it was just graphical. Once I set the resolution for memtest to my laptop's native resolution, I was able to see the memtest testing screen. RAM passed!Comment
