MEMTEST V6.3 - One Bit error

    Hi Keith,

In case the RAM module indicate 1 bit error in Memtest V6.3 , can this type of RAM module be used for normal desktop application and not cause any fatal error in the system.

What can be its impact on a server application ?

    Thanks !

All RAM errors (even 1-bit) are serious and should be fixed, as it could potentially manifest itself as a system failure. Although it is true that the RAM error could cause a benign fault such as a change in numerical value in a spreadsheet or a typo in a word document. But it is as likely that the RAM errors could appear in O/S page tables or driver code, causing the system to crash or halt.

In server applications with strict reliability requirements, the effect could be more catastrophic as it could affect all entities that are dependent on the correct operation of the server.
