MemTest86 Freezes on Dell OptiPlex 790

    Morning,

I have two Dell OptiPlex 790s and MemTest86 v11.5 freezes on both of them, with different RAM. I have tested different USB drives and different imagine writing utilities but MemTest86 still freezes.

I cannot pull the debug log file because Windows doesn't recognize the device:

Also, pressing ESC or c (for configuration) does nothing. MemTest86 appears completely frozen.

I attempted imaging the USB on a different device, MemTest86 still froze.

MemTest86 v4.3.7 boots and appears to run perfectly.

This machine is pretty old now. That i5 CPU was released in 2010. So 15 years ago.

If V4 of MemTest86 works, it might be an indication that the UEFI BIOS in this machine is buggy. UEFI only got to widespread adoption around 2011 and the early implementations were somewhat buggy. I assume there is no newer BIOS firmware available for these machines?

Correct, I'm running the latest A22 BIOS for the Dell OptiPlex 790.

If your goal is just to test the RAM, then V4 is fine for a machine of this age.
