  • Ran the test on 2 RAMs, same results. Help plesse....

So I ran the test on the old 8G RAM, got lots of errors. Then I ran it on a new 16G RAM, same results. I wonder is it the RAM or the CPU?

Attached the log and HTML file on the 16G RAM. Thank you all for your help.

Maybe this laptop has 4GB of soldered RAM and then a slot to add more RAM.
And maybe the soldered RAM is bad?

I am suspecting this as the total amount of RAM installed was not 16GB, but 20GB and because MemTest86 detected 2 sticks from BIOS but only 1 stick with SPD data.

You're right. Now I'm trying to figure out how to fix the soldered RAM. Thanks!

        There are no easy solutions.

        Not so easy solutions:
        1. If the machine is under warranty, return it for repair. (they'll probably swap the entire main board, rather than repair it). This is the best options.
        2. Depending on where you are there are a few really expert people who can remove the bad chip and replace it (then fix SPD data if required). Needs a bunch of skill and technical knowledge.
        3. It is possible in theory to mask a block of bad RAM addresses. But often the problems are too extensive.
        4. Sometimes BIOS can be tweaked to hide the problem. e.g. run the RAM slower. This only fixes some faults however. And Laptops often don't have a BIOS with many configuration options.
