Recently changed my boot drive and reinstalled windows. Didn't touch CPU/RAM hardware or settings during the process. System had been VERY stable before the drive change. After Windows was reinstalled I had a few BSOD crashes while getting everything installed and configured, that SEEMED to be related to GPU drivers, but I figured I'd run a RAM test to be sure. I hadn't run one in a few years on this hardware so I figured why not.
Loaded up memtest86, ran it, and it started throwing hundreds of errors pretty much immediately. Within 30 minutes or so it hit the 10k limit and gave up. Didn't even finish the first pass. But the system seems pretty stable. I've been actively using it (although probably not really maxing out the 32gb RAM) for the past few days with zero crashes.
In my experience even a couple of errors over multiple hours of testing usually means "bad RAM", so I would expect that many errors to mean something is really wrong. But that isn't matching the current experience so I am second guessing my assumptions.
Am I perhaps doing something wrong with the Memtest settings? Or is my understanding on how stable a system can be with those kinds of issues incorrect? Any other advice? Thanks in advance.
