    v11.6 Pro Hang on Arrow Lake (Test 9): Stable with 14 Cores, Fails with 16

    Dear Sir,

    Technical Issue Report: Core-Specific Program Hang on Arrow Lake (v11.6 Pro)
    Problem Description: We are reporting a reproducible program hang (application stops responding) when running MemTest86 v11.6 Pro on Intel Arrow Lake platforms (Core Ultra 265H and 285H).

    Symptom: The program hangs specifically during Test 9 [Random number sequence].System Status: This is a software-level deadlock/hang rather than a hardware lock-up, as the system remains responsive to Ctrl+Alt+Del to trigger a reset.

    Detailed Test Results & Comparison: We have identified a specific "Core Count Threshold" where the software fails. The system is physically stable (confirmed by v10.6), but v11.6 fails once more than 14 cores are utilized.

    PS:
    To achieve stability in v11.6 Pro on this platform, the following mt86.cfg parameters must be applied:
    CPUSEL=PARALLEL
    CPULIST=0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13
    ENABLEHT=0

    Unstable software can be caused by unstable hardware. Does this happen on more than one machine, with more than one different set of RAM?

      Hi David,
      1. 16 Cores (Default): 8 machines experience random hangs during Test 9 within a 4-hour window .
      2. 14 Cores (Manual): 8 machines are 100% stable for 24 hours when restricted via mt86.cfg (CPULIST=0-13, ENABLEHT=0).
      3. v10.6 Stability: All systems previously passed 24-hour runs on v10.6 Pro with full cores.
      4.Thank you for recommending v11.7. Since we are currently using v11.6 Pro, we will check out with our QA.​

          Hi Keith,David,
          Following up on the reported program hang during Test 9 on the Arrow Lake platform, Factory's engineer has collected the log file from a system that experienced the failure under the 16-core configuration.
          PS: it's program hang on 38 min!

            Thanks for the logs.

            It appears that the hang is related to the efficiency cores timing out due to taking too long to finish testing. We made some fixes to address similar issues with chipsets with hybrid cores in v11.6 but this may be a more extreme case of it. As such, we made a few additional fixes accordingly.

              Hi Keith,
              Thank you for providing the MemTest86 v11.7 Free Edition for log collection. Please note that the logs we are providing right now are all PASS logs with no failures captured.

              The issue we encountered is that the MemTest86 program itself hangs during testing. This program hang occurs randomly and requires a continuous stability loop test of at least 12 hours to reproduce. Since the Free Edition is strictly limited to a maximum of 4 runs, the test finishes too quickly; therefore, it's difficult to reproduce the failure.

              Therefore, the attached logs only show normal completions and do not capture the actual program hang behavior you need to see.

                Thanks for the logs. From those runs, it does appear the problem related to the hybrid cores has been fixed.
