  • OSFMount.sys file open even after Dismounting

I am trying out OSFMount for RAM drive. Mounting happens fine but Dismounting does not work with -d -m W:

    Notifying applications...
    Flushing file buffers...
    Locking volume...
    W: Access is denied.
    works with -D -m -W:

    Notifying applications...
    Flushing file buffers...
    Locking volume...
    Failed, forcing dismount..
    Removing device...
    Removing mountpoint...
    Done.

That is why there is two options, -d and -D
    -d Dismount a virtual disk.
-D Force dismount a virtual disk.
If the drive is in use by some other application, a regular dismount (-d) won't work. And there is a lot of software that can inadvertently cause a drive to be in use. Just having Windows Explorer open if often enough. In that case -D is required.

There is the same problem with doing a "safe remove" on a USB drive. A lot of the time safe removal isn't possible and you have to force it by physical removal of the drive.
