OSF Mount working abnormally in Windows 10, 11 and also in windows server 2022

    Hello Team,

I usually use OSFMount software (latest version) and I'm using it in windows 11 and windows server 2022 mostly and the files that used to work properly in windows 8 are not properly mounting drives ex. It mounts but doesn't let me enter in drive neither it shows the space ect informations related drive mounted by it.

I honestly have no clue about it. could you please share some insights over it that would be helpful.

    Thanks
    Jayesh

If you are copying the files across from Win8, then maybe you aren't using the latest version of the OSFMount software?

      Hello David!

What I was trying to say is, I have downloaded latest version of OSFMount when I upgraded my systems in terms of Windows.
But, I'm facing issue as mentioned earlier like failing to mount whole file or mount a drive but we can't access it.

Let me know, if you need any specific information.

      Thanks,
      Jayesh

        Can you provide more details.

Are these RAM drives or disk images? What format are the disk images in (e.g. E01, IMG, etc..)? Are you mounting them as volume emulation or as a physical drive emulation?
What file system is inside the disk images? How big are they? Can they be made available to us for testing? How were the image originally made?

Does any disk image work with your install (e.g. can you make a new RAM drive and save it to disk as an new image then reopen it)?

          Sure David,

I've mix of both RAM drives and disk images and there are variety of file types but most common is Encase files (E01 and Ex01).
About mounting, yes I always mount them as 'Logical Drive Emulation'.

They have windows file system in most as far I know and size could vary from 80GB to 300GB so, there's big question on sharing data/files because as you see the size of it is pretty big and I have not created those images so, origin or process is unknown.

I have created several small files using OSFMount in past and they all work well irrespective of configurations I have used previously or now.

If most images are working, can you provide the exact details for the one that isn't.

If the images contain a full disk image (with multiple partitions) then you should try physical drive emulation.

For the image that isn't working, you can you try a 3rd party tool. Maybe the image files are corrupt.
Also you should still be able to view the sectors on the image, even if Windows Explorer shows nothing. There are many tools for this, including OSForensics. You can then check the image has a MFT and other expected structures.

The chances of us quickly getting to the bottom of the problem without an example image are low.
