  • Using ModemTest in Peer-to-Peer test

I am totally wireless (ie no phone land lines). I am trying to test a friend's PC modem. I have performed the loopback test and it works OK, but I would like to have two PC talk to each other by using a null modem cable. Without a phone line to dial out is there a way to start ModemTest so the two PC's will talk to each other?

Both PC's use PCI modems set as COM3 with RJ11 connectors. I have two 2 wire phone cables, one is a normal phone cable (pins 2 to 3 and pins 3 to 2) and one with the pins straight thru (pins 2 to 2 and pins 3 to 3). If the above ModemTest is possible which cable should I use?

If ModemTest is not capable of doing this type test, what other options would you recommend?

    Thanks for you support!!!

Modem test without a phone line

It is not possible for a modem to connect to another modem directly with a cable unless you have a phone line. To test connectivity of 2 PC's using modems you will need a phone line (or some very expensive equipment that simulates a phone line).

    Best regards,
