  • Disk checkup sometimes causing blue screen when changing hard drives

Disk checkup sometimes causing blue screen when changing hard drives. when I change the hard drives I get a blue screen with all zeros in the address, this is random, it may happen every time or it may take 3 or more changes. I am running 32bit XP. Any fixes?

Can you get a photo of the blue screen. The details can help debug the problem.

It is not convenient to photo the blue screen, however I installed blue screen viewer which enables me to see all of the information on the blue screen (and more) One strange thing about disk checkup when changing drives is that it hangs the computer for a few seconds. I hope that the below report helps identify the problem.

So it crashed in Intel's device driver, iaStor.sys.
If you do a Google search this driver is known to have plenty of bugs that cause blue screens. You are using V5 of their driver, which is pretty old. So try updating it. Intel might have stopped supporting Windows XP however. So you might be out of luck.

I managed to find version 7.0.0.1020 Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver for windows XP which was the latest that I could find that supported XP and my chipset. This cured the problem of hanging the computer when switching drives and the blue screens every few changes.
