  • Using VOIP to test Modem

    Hi,
Is it possible to use VOIP to test Modems using Passmark ModemTest, instead of normal analog phone lines.
I was thinking of, say, having two VOIP lines connected to two notebooks and use the master and slave setup in ModemTest to test both modems.
I will have a volume of Modems to test each day - so using analog phone lines to call a number of times each day is not cost effective. Calling VOIP to VOIP is free.
Have you any idea if this idea will work?

    Thanks in advance.

Most VoIP systems would not have a analogue connector to allow you to connect a modem.

Even if a particular VoIP system did, the VoIP supplier, the modem manufacturer as well as the modem standards probably would have never taken this scenario into account. So if you did find a fault, you wouldn't know who to blame.

A better plan would to be to purchase an old PABX system (with analogue lines, not digitial lines nor ISDN lines) or a analogue POTS line simulator.

Have a look on E-Bay for 2nd hand gear if you are on a tight budget.
