Ati sapphire hd 3870 performance

Hey folks,

Some guidance if you can.

I recently upgraded my Graphics Card from a GeForce 7600GT to the HD 3870.

On the Passmark Test simple 3D test it performs really well - as expected. However, on the complex 3D test it starts at FPS of about double the 7600 GT BUT within seconds drops back to barely half what the 7600 GT was giving me.

Any ideas??

I am running a standard home desktop with Intel Core 2 Q8200 with a 350W PSU with 16V on the +12V rail.

I hope you mean 16 amps on the 12 volt rail. The PSU is way undersized IMO though the problem you are having looks to be heat related. Do you have good case cooling? What are your CPU and GPU temps when under load? All fans working, heatsinks clean and properly mounted? Try testing with the case covers off. If its not an overheating issue I would try a larger PSU. A quality PSU with 28 amps on the 12 volt rail or more should do the trick. Here is a Corsair PSU that should handle the load as long as your not overclocking or running a ton of hard drives. Just to be sure enter your system specs in the free PSU calculator here.

I have never heard of that brand before and it would be highly suspect. I can't find any reviews of it on the net either. I take it you do not live in the US, UK or similar. If you have a online shop you can buy from please post a link to their PSU section.

There is such a company though I never heard of them and would not trust anything they sell. A general lack of info and a poorly laid out web site.
