  • Xeon E3-1275 V3 versus i5 4670

Hi, I am thinking of upgrading my cpu from an i5 4670 (not K) (passmark 7385) to a seconhand Xeon E3 1275 v3 (passmark 9863) . Apart from normal internet use, I use DCS flight sim ( my setup is marginal for this) and am buying Witcher 3 and Skyrim. I have just bought a Geforce GTX 1060 3Gb . I have 16Gb of ddr3 in an Asrock Z87 Pro4 board. The Xeon cpu has a much better passmark but when I read forums and reviews they suggest the i5 4670 is just as good. If the Xeon passmark is a valid indication of the relative speeds of the two cpus then the Xeon cpu should give my current setup a few years more life. Any comments or suggestions would be very helpful. Many thanks. OwenK

The Xeon's faster speed is mostly due to a very slightly higher clock speeds and hyperthreading.
For gaming I don't think hyperthreading will help much. It might a bit for the flight sim however.

The four year old Xeon would need to be super cheap to make it worthwhile I think.
