  • AMD 830 Benching

For the last few days I've been pushing my AMD 830 (a $60 quad chip) to its limits. Right now, it's running at 4.1GHz which is actually faster than the highest-benchmarking 830. However, my scores in these don't reflect it at all:

    CPU - Floating Point Math
    #47294 - AMD Phenom II X4 830 5815
    This Computer 5299

    CPU - Single Threaded
    #47294 - AMD Phenom II X4 830 1461
    This Computer 1405

    All of the scores:
    CPU Mark
    #47294 - AMD Phenom II X4 830 5376
    This Computer 5341

    CPU - Integer Math
    #47294 - AMD Phenom II X4 830 7650
    This Computer 7526

    CPU - Floating Point Math
    #47294 - AMD Phenom II X4 830 5815
    This Computer 5373

    CPU - Prime Numbers
    #47294 - AMD Phenom II X4 830 15.9
    This Computer 16.6

    CPU - Extended Instructions (SSE)
    #47294 - AMD Phenom II X4 830 21.5
    This Computer 21.6

    CPU - Compression
    #47294 - AMD Phenom II X4 830 5922
    This Computer 5946

    CPU - Encryption
    #47294 - AMD Phenom II X4 830 1062
    This Computer 1073

    CPU - Physics
    #47294 - AMD Phenom II X4 830 355.7
    This Computer 355.3

    CPU - Sorting
    #47294 - AMD Phenom II X4 830 4260
    This Computer 4302

    CPU - Single Threaded
    #47294 - AMD Phenom II X4 830 1461
    This Computer 1404

Any ideas as to what is going on here? Will provide further information if needed.

You are within 1% of the other baseline. When it gets down to differences this small it is hard to know the cause. It could be your CPU overheating, motherboard differences, RAM differences, random variations due to background tasks running on your machine or something else.

I did eventually take the top spot for the AMD 830, but in the two categories/tests that I'd listed, he's 9.7% higher than I and 4% higher than I, in respective order. Those are a bit higher than the 1% tests.

Marks reply stated baseline as to the difference. Very important since he wasn't refering to O'C results.
