  • horrible scores on an E4500

I have an e4500. nothing spectacular, however lately my computer has been bogging down, hitting 100% util. easily etc...

I was blaming this on my recent switch to windows 8, so I did a fresh install of windows 7.

it's a bit faster but still pretty slow. I checked my win experience rating, noticed that my cpu was scoring 2.0 which seemed off to me.

so I ran passmark. my score is 347.4. according to the historical scores here, it should average around 1260. I think something is definitely up.

I checked cpuZ... I notice my multiplier is jumping between 6 and 11 a lot... I suspect some sort of throttling going on but that shouldn't cause issues under normal use (at least I wouldn't think).

any tips? I've had the same setup for ages, the only thing I did was swap out my ram to upgrade from 4 to 8 gigs. my board (msi 7365) supports ddr2 and ddr3 so I'm running ddr3 now.

update: nevermind! it's overheating. CPU is at 92C. HSF probably died.

    Check the CPU temperature.
Check that the fan on the CPU is working
Check that the heat sink isn't full of dust.
