    what's the difference between 500 GB 5400 rpm SATA vs 750 GB 5400 RPM hard drive?

          That's assuming the 750GB drive is also SATA... If it's an external USB drive or possibly an old-style IDE internal drive, the capacity difference would be exactly as David said, but the transfer rates would be different (SATA is likely to be the fastest).
