  • memtest pro ECC injection known working configuration

    Hello All,

I am trying to assemble a server with components that support ECC error injection.

Can someone please tell me which CPU and motherboard combination does enable memtest pro to actually inject ECC errors?

It does not have to be AMD but if one knows of a motherboard that enables memtest pro ECC injection using the threadripper 3990X cpu or a board with a Ryzen 9 3950X then that would be great. But I'll settle for anything. Just need to see it work so I can be confident about my server setup.

You can find a list of supported CPUs at the bottom of this page
    https://www.memtest86.com/compare.html

At the moment the list is,
    • AMD Bulldozer (15h)
    • AMD Steamroller (15h)
    • AMD Jaguar (16h)
    • AMD Ryzen (17h) [Note: Injection is disabled in most AMD retail CPUs, so this is NOT a good option]
    • AMD Steppe Eagle SoC
    • AMD Merlin Falcon SoC
    • Intel Nehalem
    • Intel Lynnfield
    • Intel Westmere
    • Intel Xeon E3 family (Sandy Bridge)
    • Intel Xeon E3 v2 family (Ivy Bridge)
    • Intel Xeon E3 v3 family (Haswell)
    • Intel Xeon E3 v4 family (Broadwell)
    • Intel Xeon E3 v5 family (Skylake)
    • Intel Xeon E3 v6 family (Kaby Lake)
    • Intel Atom C2000 SoC
    • Intel Broadwell-H SoC
    • Intel Apollo Lake SoC
We don't know of any retail motherboards for Threadripper 3990X that enable this feature in BIOS. We have only seen it working on an engineering sample.

But we are doing some R&D on another hardware based solution, that should hopefully work on all systems. It won't be available for a few months however.
