    Upgrade cpu for my EMCP73VT-PM

My motherboard now has a celeron420 (1.6 MHz) chip. I would like to replace it with a faster cpu that would directly interchange onto my MCP73VT-PM mainboard.
Greatly appreciate any suggestions. LGA775 and has DDR2 memory

The fastest LGA775 CPU was the Intel Core2 Extreme X9770

2nd choice would be the Intel Core2 Quad Q9650

But consider just junking the machine, as the RAM, video, disk, etc.. will all also be old.

      If I could......
I was hoping an E8400 or E6800 might work. Can get one of those off Amazon
      for $10 - $20, and I can afford that.

If it is a CPU with a LGA775 socket, then it should just work.

Very rarely a BIOS update is required, or a bigger heatsink is required (as faster CPUs tend to run hotter).

I was just hoping. I will keep saving to someday buy a used computer then.
I figured I might have to install a small fan on the chip and probably search out a new BIOS.
Thank you very much for your help and responses.
