  • Help for pc config

    Hi everyone,

I'm totally lost and a newbie, so I need your help, please. I live in France.

I'm not a professional photo editor or video creator, but I plan to set up a workstation for photo editing, especially with Topaz Gigapixel to improve photos with AI, and also for video creation because I want to create a YouTube channel. I want to have a powerful configuration that will last for years; I don't want to change it in a few years.

What do you advise me regarding the configuration, AMD or Intel? What processor and graphics card should I choose? I have a maximum budget of €2000-€2500.

I did a little research and thought of:
    - Ryzen 9 5900X or Ryzen 9 7900X processors because I see that these two processors have great benchmark performance on the PassMark site. Ryzen 9 5900X has an average CPU mark of 39186, and Ryzen 9 7900X has an average CPU mark of 51896.
    - As for graphics cards, I'm confused. I find a lot of variety with a large amount of VRAM, and I don't understand why others with less VRAM are more expensive than those with more VRAM. On the market, I found these graphics cards: RX 7900XTX TUF 24 GB (€1089), XFX Speedster SWFT 319 Radeon RX 6800 16 GB (€399), or RX 7600 XT 16 GB (€350).

What should I choose, please? I read recently that single-thread and multi-thread performance have an influence on the performance of applications as well.

    Thank you so much!

    Younes

Ryzen 9 5900X would be fine. As would the Intel Core i7-14700K (and many other CPUs).

Many tasks will be single threaded. So consider those benchmarks as well. The very high end CPUs aren't great value.

Honestly you don't need a super high end video card for video & photo editing. 4060 or Radeon RX 6800 should be fine. But if you only plan on using the Topazlab gigapixel software you should research that in depth, as we don't know the details of how that software is optimised.

You might want to consider putting the money saved into bigger / better dual monitors, faster internet and faster / larger SSD.
