  • Memory latency question

Hi, I'm comparing benchmarks between the Surface Pro 9 and Surface Pro 10 and for some reason I'm noticing a huge discrepancy in the results for memory latency which is affecting the overall memory score.

For the Surface Pro 9, I'm getting an average of 59 whereas the Surface Pro 10 is getting 109 for the memory latency result.

The specs between the two models are very similar so I'm not sure what is causing this issue. Shouldn't the new model outperform the older one and especially (LPDDR5 vs LPDDR5x)?

    Surface Pro 9
    Intel Core i7-1265U
    16 GB RAM LPDDR5

    Surface Pro 10
    Intel Core Ultra 7 165U
    16 GB RAM LPDDR5x

Doesn't seem to be an isolated case.
On average the Surface Pro 10 has higher memory latency than the 9.
BUT the actual MB/sec transfer rate is slightly higher with the Surface 10.

So likely it is a trade off they made. Increased clock speeds but to get those clock speeds the timings needed to be looser. With a very minor gain overall (for some scenarios).

      Thanks David.

So the overall Memory Mark score is lower for the Surface Pro 10 compared to the Surface Pro 9.

Would that indicate that the memory on the SP10 performs worse on the SP9?

I had a look at results from several different Surface 9s and 10s.
It seemed like, on average, the 10 was roughly speaking about the same as the 9 overall.
Certainly the difference is so small that no user would notice. CPU, Disk and Internet speeds are more important to the user experience than RAM speeds.
