Benchmark idea

A nice new benchmark idea for cpus and potentially gpus would be combining price to performance with also wattage

Somthing along the lines of passmark score ÷ wattage ÷ cost this would be a good concept for building a super low cost low watt computer system, a concept that would align with supercomputing for example

But often we don't have a cost for some CPUs (they only get sold as a completed Laptop or phone or server). And often we don't have accurate power usage either as power plans, BIOS setting and thermal throttling all play a part.

So the chart above is just a rough indication of where to start looking.

I don't think any of these efficient CPUs have ever been used in any super computers. Cost and power limits aren't the main concerns when building a super computer. In fact typically the super expensive CPUs are used in super computers (Epyc and Xeon Platinum + insanely expensive GPU accelerators).

Super computer built with Intel Core i3 (without a reasonable PCIe bus, without ECC and without supporting enough RAM) would be a very hard sell.

I know, didn't mean just for super computers or basic i3s like the price to performance chart you shared, shows xeons, I just wanted a mixed chart that shows price/performance/wattage all in one, for low budget low power builds, like for off grid even

Atleast for the price to performance one, has xeons, I was more thinking a low watt cheap system, without having to go raspberry pi or somthing,

Like a i5 4570T mini desktop pc

it would just be cool, and useful for people making offices or offgrid systems

I also really like the site, has great reference points and the cost-performance chart is very good aswel an pretty accurate, you have done a great job sourcing the pricing, you have a fair amount of pricing stuff that has been relatively accurate
same thing for gpus

There is also the Mega CPU page that has a bunch of filtering and sorting options.

Some possibilities for best Price / Performance / Wattage are,
Intel N100
Intel Pentium N6415 @ 1.20GHz

But most of the really efficient chips are the laptop chips, which you can't buy separately, so we don't have a price for the chip itself.

The xeon 2630 v4 has a better performance vs wattage an cost and its still a high watt chip, which is why the benchmark i said would be great

xeon 2630 v4 is very old now. It only looks cheap now as they are being sold 2nd hand, after been pulled out of old servers, after 8 years of use.

Yeah, I understand, still pretty good for 10 an 14 core cpus

But yeah, I'd love to see a budget power build chart on this, it just interests me

It would also be useful for the top 500 green server race that's happening now
