  • Hyper-Threaded CPU Inconsitant Report

Hi, I'm trying to determine why 2 systems are running differently where they should be the same, I've noticed that one reports...
    CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel
    Number of CPU: 2
    CPU Type: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
    CPU1 Speed: 2992.9 MHz
    CPU2 Speed: 2992.8 MHz
    Cache size: 1024KB

    Whilst the other reports...
    CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel
    Number of CPU: 1
    (1 Core(s)/CPU, 2 Logical(s)/Core)
    CPU Type: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
    CPU Speed: 2992.8 MHz
    Cache size: 1024KB
Yet both are the same CPU + motherboard running same version (&SP) of XP with same BIOS settings (hyper-threading enabled). The Benchmarks for CPU are similar, but I'd like to understand why there's a difference between the reports if anybody has any ideas I'd appeciate them.

    Cheers

Are you using the same version of PerformanceTest on both machines? Which version? Maybe one of the machines had an CPU upgrade at some point and now Windows still thinks it is on a older CPU without HT.

If you look in task manager, does it show 2 CPUs or 1 CPU for the 2nd machine?

Hi, Thanks for response. Both same version 6.1 (we purchased a full copy just to find out what's different).
Second macine XP does think it's hyperthreaded. msinfo32 reports....

      System Type X86-based PC
      Processor x86 Family 15 Model 3 Stepping 4 GenuineIntel ~2992 Mhz
      Processor x86 Family 15 Model 3 Stepping 4 GenuineIntel ~2992 Mhz

Yet Perf Test reports as 1

As I said this isn't critical as isn't the issue I'm focused on, just interested as it's different.
