  • Performance problem with Dell E4300 on battery

    Hi,

My laptop is extremely slow on battery. I've run the CPU Integer test with and without battery:

On Battery: CPU Integer Test 6.2
On Power: CPU Integer Test 217.7

I've selected the "High Performance" power plan in Vista and changed all settings so they are equal on power and battery (including minimum cpu speed from 5% to 100%.)

Still the performance is terrible on battery, the computer is useless on battery in fact.

Anyone have any ideas on what's causing this, and how to improve?

Yes, the power plans is where I would look first. Then I might have a look in BIOS.

I had a similar problem with an E-machine notebook. I called tech support and after a lot of run around, found out that the CPU speed was controled in the BIOS and was not selectable in my version of BIOS, and that they were no longer supporting my older notebook. The power settings in windows seemed to have no effect.
