benchmark scaling question

Hello every1,

I was wondering if the benchmark scaling is linear or not? What I mean is; is a cpu scoring 9000 is 3x faster than a cpu scoring 3000? Let's say we would be in a perfect world where there is no HD, RAM, VC, NIC bottleneck, would it be 3x faster? Does it do 3x more operation per seconds?

I am asking because, when it comes to virtualization, let's say I have 10old servers, score 2000 on the cpu benchmark, for a total of 20,000points, can I virtualize them easily on 2-3x 10,000points cpu?

Yes, twice the score is roughly twice the number of operations.

But in real life other issues, like RAM and disk bandwidth and the inability of applications to scale to 4 or 8 cores means that application performance doesn't increase at the same rate.
