  • My C2D Vs. P4 Vs. Celeron D

Hi there, new to the forums I have some questions about the spare hardware that I am setting up.Atm I have These CPU's along with their own MBs.

    Core2Duo E6300 1.86Ghz 2MB L2 Cache [DELL]

    Pentium 4 2.66Ghz 512KB L2 Cache OCed to 3.10Ghz Stable

    Celeron D 3.06ghz 512KB L2 Cache

    Athlon 64 2.20Ghz 512KB L2 Cache OCed to 2.71Ghz Stable

Though I have checked the Benchmarks on this site I am still a bit confused.

#1 Which one of these Intel CPUs are best for single threaded\core programs?

#2 Between this P4 & Celeron D which is Faster?

#3 What is the Intel Equivalent for a A64 2.7Ghz?I know about the rare A64M 4000+ but it's only 2.6Ghz.

#4 If I take a Dual Core Benchmark Rating and divide it by 2 do I get the Single Core Rating?

#1 The Core 2. It is a much newer CPU than the others.
#2 There isn't a great deal in it, they are both slow by today's standards. The overclocked P4 should do slightly better.
#3 There are several CPUs around the same performance level, but an Intel P4 @ 3.6Ghz would be similar.
#4 In most cases 2 cores doesn't exactly double performance due to bottlenecks like cache and RAM that are shared. There is no exact formula that works with all CPUs. But for a rough guide take 30% - 40% off the dual core result.
