I ran a performance test on my computer today and one yesterday. There was nothing running in the back ground either time but yesterday it reports the physical memory available is 3340 MB and today it's only 2875 MB. What would cause this?
All Windows programs have dozens of programs and services running in the background. You can't remove them all. So it is normal that available RAM will vary from time to time. Background tasks like the disk cache and search indexer can use up lots of RAM.
