  • Looking for P4 3.40 GHz Passmark?

Looking for the passmark for (In hindsight I should have posted this in the "PC hardware and benchmarks" category. Admin can move it if necessary

This is the one I am buying used for $20 SL793
IntelŪ PentiumŪ 4 Processor supporting HT Technology 3.40 GHz, 512K Cache, 800 MHz FSB

    Intel also has this one
IntelŪ PentiumŪ 4 Processor supporting HT Technology 3.40 GHz, 1M Cache, 800 MHz FSB Prescott

I found this listing but it doesn't say P4
    http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+3.40GHz
Will there be a difference between these? it seams like this info isn't listed

This is my current processor http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?...tium+4+2.40GHz

BTW Can I use the stock fan from the 2.4 northwood for the 3.4 P4? When multitasking should I see a noticeable improvement?

This is a second older computer running
    Win XP Pro sp3 32bit
    ATI 100-714145 Radeon 9600 256MB 128-bit DDR AGP 4X/8X All-In-Wonder 2006 Edition Video Card
    DDR 2GB PC3200 DUAL CORS 2X1GB SPEED 400MHz
    MSI PM8M-V H

    Thank you, Harry

Performance wise there will be a difference going from 2.4 to 3.4 Ghz though do not expect too much as its old tech. The Northwood should run much cooler than the Prescott. The 2.4 cooler may work OK on the Northwood if you have good case cooling and the ambient temp is not too high. The 2.4 cooler will never cool the Prescott as they are hot blooded. Overall performance between the Northwood and Prescott is close to a wash. I'd Rather have the cooler running Northwood.

The problem with these old chips is that they didn't identify themselves very well. The newer chips have the model number build into the chip.

So in some cases small variations of the older chips get lumped together in the CPU charts. I don't think you'll notice the performance difference between 512MB and 1MB cache, both will be slow (by today's standards).
