  • athlon 64 x2 vs athlon dual core listing?

why are "athlon 64 x2" and "athlon dual core" listed separately here on PassMark?

I've gone to CPU world and I don't can't see any distinction between an "Athlon 64 x 2" or "Athlon dual core" as they are listed here.

    For examples:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+ is rated 1,423
    but

Athlon 64 Dual Core 5000+ is rated 1,482

I know that Athlon makes a dozen or so Athlon 64 bit dual core 5000+ processors, but their model numbers are not indicated in their individual listings.

Did I miss that? I'm no expert. Just want to be able to figure out your ratings system.

    Thank you.

We get the CPU names from inside the CPUs themselves. AMD haven't been consistent with their CPU naming.

It isn't unusual for the same CPU to be released at different patch levels to fix errata. So it seems the different batches of CPUs have been given different internal names.

For example we have seen all of the following names for the 4800+

    AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core CPU 4800+, Score 1,316
    AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+, Score 1,296
    AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Processor 4800+, Score 1,269
    AMD Athlon(tm)64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+, Score 1,258
    Athlon 64 Dual Core 4800+, Score 1,370

The 2nd variation is really common. The 4th variant is rare. The other 3 variations are super rare. Valuable collector's items

We try and get rid of the worst examples of this from the charts, but don't pick up them all.
