  • 2 systems, identical processors - very different CPU scores. Any advice?

    Hi all,

I have two Dell desktop systems. I've just upgraded one to have exactly the same processor as the other, since I was so impressed with the Q6600 Quad Core Performance. So the two systems are:
    1. Dimension 9200 (P965 express chipset) - Core 2 Quad Q6600 (G0 stepping), 4GB PC2-6400
    2. Optiplex 755 (Q35 chipset) - Core 2 Quad Q6600 (G0 Stepping), 3GB PC2-5300

Neither system is overclocked in any way. However, whan I've run Performance test on the Optiplex, the CPU results are much lower than for the Dimension (which in my opinion has an older chipset).

If it helps, the baseline numbers are:

    29867 - Dimension 9200
    33992 - Optiplex 755

And here is a screenshot of the CPU results:

(Red is Dimension 9200, Blue is Optiplex 755)

Now what could be causing such a large difference? Could it be the slightly slower RAM? Perhaps because one is running windows 7 64-bit and other other 32-bit?

    Thanks, any advice appreciated.

    Gareth

Yes, a large part of the difference is the 32bit / 64bit difference.

There is some background in these posts,
