  • Is my memory test correct?

    My PC =
    AMD ATHLON XP 3200+
    RADEON X800
    2047 MB RAM IN 2 OF 2
    WDC WD1600BB-22GUA DISK
    D: SH4 {CD-RW_NEC}

    My memory results were as follows :

    Allocate Small Block 1482.8
    Read Cached 1015.1
    Read Uncached 596.4
    Write 606.2
    Large RAM 226.7

    I today upgraded my RAM from 512 to 2 GB and am hoping to see good results from the test, do my memory results look appropriate?
    Thanks for the help, great software...............

    The results appear to be OK for the system you describe, but not fantastic.

    It should be noted that increasing your RAM from 512MB to 2GB will not necessarily give you much of a performance gain. You may only get a significant gain if you are using all of your RAM (like leaving lots of applications open) and hence a bunch of stuff is swapped out to disk and bringing it back in is very slow.

    The best way to check the benefit of a hardware upgrade is to run PerformanceTest before the upgrade and run the PerformanceTest after the upgrade and compare the results.

    Ian
