  • 4070 Laptop GPU - Low PDF Rendering Only

The performance numbers on my 4070 laptop GPU are really good - except for PDF Rendering, which is well below Average: consistently capped at 58. You can see in the chart that I'm certainly not the only one. There are those for whom it's working correctly and those for whom it is not.

I'm trying to figure this out since I'm one the verge of a great overall Passmark score. Anyway, the only suggestions I've seen in the forum to address PDF Rendering is to clean install the latest graphics driver and check that the test PDF opens and scrolls wells. I confirmed the PDF works perfectly (and the actual test appears to run perfectly FWIW). I clean installed the Studio Driver (changing from the Game Driver). This is otherwise a fresh Windows 11 Pro installation and the only tweaks I've done are to change to "Prefer Maximum Performance" in the Nvidia Control Panel, switch Windows Performance Options to Adjust for Best Performance, and force Windows Scaling to 100%.

Yes, that spike at around 60 pages / sec is a bit strange.

I checked a collection of other video cards. Many of the high performance cards have a similar spike (nVidia, AMD and Intel ARC).
It isn't visible on the mid to low end cards. But that might be because they struggle to hit 60 pages / sec.

60hz also happens to be the most common monitor refresh rate. So maybe some machine are locked to the monitor refresh rate.

So as it happens on different video cards it probably isn't a video card driver issue. More likely it is different behavior in different version of Windows (Win10 vs 11?), different settings in Windows, or maybe different monitor refresh rates, or different monitor interface (Display port vs HDMI).

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I kind of suspected that the monitor and/or interface might be at fault. This machine is a new thing In trying out: it’s been dubbed a screenless laptop. I love it so far except that I don’t have any screens lying around with a high refresh rate. Anyway, it’s still a killer deal and I’m right on the verge of a 17,000 Passmark score. I’ll add a screenshot once I submit.

Just out of curiosity: where do you stand on using a RAM Disk on the Storage benchmark? Feel free to say no comment

Your free to benchmark whatever you want. But in terms of submission to our database, as long as the disk being tested reports itself as a RAM disk (or an unknown disk). That is fine.

If we find results where someone is faking results we generally just delete the submission.
