  • RX 6700 XT Weird DirectX 12 Results

I’ve decided to test second-hand bought RX 6700 XT in 3D perfomance tests and was surprised by low Directx 12 score - 35 fps. It ran at 90ish fps at 1920*1080 and was penalized by 60% to 35 fps, but the thing is that videocard wasn’t utilized even by 50%, therefore the low results.

When I activated AMD Virtual Super Resolution in Adrenaline and set my resolution to 4K, the miracle happened - videocard got the same 88-90 fps, but in 4K, also got 100% loaded.

I checked other results for the same videocard - there are two definite peaks - ones, who got 34-36 fps and ones who got like 90 frames. Is there a possible explanation to this low GPU usage in test and therefore tremendously poor results?

Likely your CPU was a bottle neck at 1080p. Meaning more than 90fps could have been possible at 1080p with a faster CPU. At low resolutions the CPU becomes important.

Once you switched to 4K, then this added no load to the CPU, but added a lot of load to the half idle video card. i.e. it was balanced, with probably the CPU and GPU near fully loaded.

We are re-writing the DirectX12 test at the moment to use less CPU time and always run at 4K. So it should be better in the next major release.
