    GPU Compute Significant FPS Drop

    Hello,

    I'd recently got a 5070 for which my 3D Mark score was as expected. Every now and again I like to rerun the test as a small way to ensure that my GPU is still running as it should and there's no hiccups in any tests, etc.

    I haven't run it in about a month and when I did today one of the GPU Compute iterations dropped significantly. It's the 2nd test in the GPU Compute and the FPS is at a consistent 22 FPS. I've tried enabled ultimate performance on my power settings and rolling back to older GPU drivers but it still happens. My total GPU Compute score has dropped from 17.5k to about 12.5k and this is the only test that's affected. As mentioned, within the GPU Compute test, it's only one iteration that's affected also, the rest of them are completely fine.

    Can you please advise what's happening and how I can fix this? I've attached a screenshot of the test mid-run.

    22fps is indeed a low result for this card.

    Did anything change, except the device driver version?
    For example a new monitor or any additional 3rd party software (e.g. streaming software, or screen overlays)? Or did you attempt some overclocking?
    Are the temperatures on the GPU reasonable?

    Also try just rebooting and re-running the test.

      Hi David,

      Not really, I don't think. I may have started using OBS in that time via Steam, but I doubt that'd have an impact? Overclocking is simply just the Nvidia auto tune... I had performed this before and the test was fine.

      Temperatures are more than fine. It should be noted that the CPU and GPU utilisation during this particular iteration of the test is basically idle?

      EDIT: I did wonder whether it had anything to do with the "Compute device" stated in the screenshot, underneath "Render device". It's saying "AMD Radeon Graphics" - is this correct? Should it not perhaps be the 5070 itself as well?

        Well spotted.
        Yes, I assume you have multiple GPUs in this machine?
        I am guessing the monitor is connected to the nVidia card however?

        Our code tries to pick the "best" card to use for the compute test. So I wonder why it didn't use the nVidia card this case (especially as it obviously did in the past). I assume you haven't forced anything in the video card driver?

          Ah, okay!

          My CPU is an AMD Ryzen 5 7600X which has the onboard graphics and must be picking this up?

          Yes, the monitor is connected to the Nvidia card.

          I don't believe I've forced anything.. I assume you mean via various settings in the Nvidia Play app or control panel? They're all set to default I believe.

          I can try and get a debug report through tomorrow!

              While those logs might help, they aren't conclusive, as it looks like you didn't actually run the benchmark test in question. Would be be possible to get a 2nd set of log files where the test is run.

                  Possibly you have two different versions/installation of OpenCL on your system. The NBody benchmark test is ran in a separate executable from PerformanceTest. When PerformanceTest queries for available adapters, it finds both your RTX 570 and the Radeon Graphics, but when the NBody executable queries for adapters only the Radeon Graphics device is returned.

                  Another thought, can you open up Settings on Windows. Go to System->Display->Graphics, then under Custom settings for applications and search if PT-NBodyGravity.exe is in the list. If it is, check what is set, Power Saving vs High Performance. If it is not, try adding PT-NBodyGravity.exe via Add desktop app option, the executable is in PerformanceTest Program Files installation directory and set it to High Performance. Run the GPU Compute benchmark and see if makes a difference.

                    Still the same unfortunately.

                    Should I not have just the one OpenCL version, or must each GPU have its own associated OpenCL? To be honest I thought I'd disable to the GPU part of my processor via BIOS, but may not have done it fully. Should I maybe try doing this again, as it's clearly active and being recognised? I had also uninstalled any AMD software/drivers for any remnants of AMD graphics I could see in Windows.
