  • PerformanceTest V8 cloud database baseline search being discontinued

Version 8 of PerformanceTest was released in 2012. For the last 14 years we have maintained an online database of benchmark results for people to search and download comparison baselines.
However as time went on search times got slower and slower as the database got larger and the complexity of the searches increased (plus the structure of the database wasn't very optimal).

At the moment search times of between 30 to 60 seconds are common, even for simple searches. We are seeing stuff like this in our log files. 7 million rows, 49 seconds.
    # Query_time: 48.489267 Lock_time: 0.000162 Rows_sent: 100 Rows_examined: 7327310

The number of users on V8 has also decreased. We only had 3 users today. Indicating people have moved on to Version 9, 10 & 11 and no one is paying for support on the V8 release.

Of course 48 second search times are not acceptable and in many cases they timeout before a user even sees the response.

In V9 and onwards we made big changes to the database structure and the search query format, so search times are much better in those newer releases.

As a result of the above we have decided to discontinue the V8 baseline search database. The core benchmark functions of the V8 software itself will continue to work. For the comparison function with other systems, we suggest upgrading to V9,10 or 11 of the software (or V12 which is currently under development).

Additionally, V8 baseline uploading is also disabled - you will receive "An unknown error occurred parsing the web server response" error when you attempt to upload.
