I have an Access Point running at 5GHz but my laptop only runs at 2.4Ghz channels. So I have to connect to the AP via Ethernet. Can I use WirelessMon to monitor the channels on the Access Point?

WirelessMon retrieves information about the available access points from the wireless network card so no it can't gather information from an access point that is connected via a cable. You would need a wireless card that can access 802.11A/B/G or 802.11N with 2.4GHz & 5GHz capability or a signal analyser (like this).
