  • Error when starting BurnInTest ethernet test - Performance counters unavailable

    Hi all,

I'm running the advanced ethernet test. I get this error whenever I start the test, typically at around the 1 or 2 second mark, with the error in the GUI saying "performance counters unavailable". The .trace file in logs shows the following. I will bold the relevant portion:

I followed the advice here and made sure that I was able to view “Network Interface” performance counters in perfmon.exe. I was able to add one using the “+” button, then select Bytes Total/sec and view its performance over time. I also saw that there were some cases related to localization mentioned in a separate forum post here. My machine's operating system's language is set to English (US) and I am running BurnInTest in English. I am wonder what may be causing this issue.

    A few other useful points:
    Application version: 10.2
Operating system: Windows 11, build 10.0.22621

I am seeing this work on another machine with very similar hardware, same operating system, and same version of BurnInTest, so I don't know why it's failing on this machine in particular. I get the same error even if I disable all of the network adapter devices in device manager.

There seems to be a lot of network connections for a single machine.
Ethernet, Bluetooth, USB to Ethernet, Cellular, Wifi,.....

Wonder if one of them is causing a problem.

Finding the correct counter for a specific network card isn't trivial. The naming doesn't always line up exactly and there some guess work involved.

We will need to add some more debugging into the code and collect another log file.

Can you try running this build in debug mode and send us the logs:

        Sounds good. Thanks!

Yes, I'll private message you and David. I prefer not to post full logs on a public forum when possible, though I did redact some information.

EDIT: Simon didn't have private messages enabled, but I sent them to David. Let me know if you need anything else.

Seems to have failed a little before the extra debugging, can you try this build:
          https://www.passmark.com/downloads/t...g_20230829.exe

Might be easier if you email the logs to: help@passmark.com

The machine I was using that had this issue had its operating system reset, and so I no longer know how to reproduce the issue. If I run into it again, I will try the debug build you provided and send the logs to the email mentioned. Thank you for all the help though!
