  • USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 Testing

    Hello,
We are conducting tests on the computer system we have developed using Passmark test tools. Our system has 2 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 output ports. Currently, we have one USB 3.0 Loopback Plug available. In our test documentation, we aim to test all USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports simultaneously and obtain the results.

Do we need to purchase 3 additional USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 Loopback Plugs for this purpose? If we connect the USB 3.0 Loopback Plug we have to one of the USB 3.0 ports, can we still test the other 3 ports at the same time during the test process?

Additionally, we are able to test USB 2.0 ports using the USB 3.0 Loopback Plug. If the USB 3.0 Loopback Plug is more stable than the USB 2.0 Loopback Plug for testing USB 2.0 ports, we are considering purchasing USB 3.0 Loopback Plugs for testing the USB 2.0 ports as well.
    Thank you.

You will need 4 plugs to test all 4 ports at the same time

You can test USB2 ports with USB3 plugs

Does USB 3.0 Loopback Plug is more stable than the USB 2.0 Loopback Plug for testing USB 2.0 port?

They have both been on the market for some years and are both stable.

Do you recommend us to buy 4xUSB 3.0 Loopback Plug or 2xUSB 3.0 Loopback Plug + 2xUSB 2.0 Loopback Plug?

We would like to test several ports (Ethernet, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, HDMI, audio jack) using Passmark software. Do you have any documentation, such as a test manual, for this purpose?

If you may be testing machines with additional USB3.0 ports in the future, then it may be prudent to purchase just USB3.0 Plugs as he USB3.0 Loopback Plugs are backward compatible with USB2.0.

You can take a look at our BurnInTest Windows software which cover most of your needs. There is not test for HDMI specifically, but does have testing for video cards and monitors (via MonitorTest software). For audio testing you'll need either loopback plug or loopback cable.

There is a free trial of the software available for download and you can also find the user manual for the software on the download page as well.

Can we test RS422 and RS485 ports using Serial & Parallel loopback plugs via PassMark software? How can we accurately test these interfaces using PassMark software and hardware?

RS-422/485 is not officially supported. Some have gotten it to work with 3rd party RS232 to RS485 converters, but we have other reports as well that it doesn't work (likely depends on the 3rd party converter).

Both these standards are really really old now. They aren't super complicated (unlike USB), so it would be possible to custom make a tester of some sort, but to design and build a device where only the sales volume would be only 1 or 2 units would still be rather expensive.
