  • Fuzzy screen on startup and errors on 2 different stick

    Hey there!
I've been using your software for so long and would first off like to thank you guys for being awesome and releasing this amazing tool.

    INFO:
    I have a Lenovo u430 Touch laptop - model 20270.

    Processor:
i5 4210u purchased from BestBuy with 8GB ram; the motherboard has 1 slot - the processor infostates that it should support 16GB ram (http://ark.intel.com/products/81016/...up-to-2_70-GHz)

    Motherboard:
    Motherboard - bios version 7CCN62WW

    Upgraded Ram tested
    Crucial 16GB Single DDR3L 1600 MT/s (PC3L-12800) SODIMM Memory CT204864BF160B
    (http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/ct204864bf160b)
I've tried 2 different sticks giving basically the same results.

    ----
    TESTS:
    When Trying to boot:
Post and Going into BIOS works, I am able to select different boot media and am able to run Memtest
If I try to boot to Windows - I get a weird Fuzzy screen (see pics)

    When Running Memtest:
normal run will get a version of the fuzzy screen after a few seconds and restart

When Running Memtest in manual mode (line by line)
I get the errors in the pics when I run it very slowly

    -----
I would think it would be very weird if BOTH sticks of new crucial ram were bad (I purchased from Amazon).
My old 8GB stick runs well and Memtest runs and passed (1 pass)

    Any advice?

According to the Lenovo web site, then U430 Touch only support 8GB of RAM. So maybe they never tested the machine with 16GB and the BIOS doesn't support it correctly?

On the Lenovo site they are saying,
"I’m sorry to inform you that the maximum RAM/Memory that is supported up to 8GB and 16GB is not compatible with this Laptop model."

      Hey David!
THanks so much for the response.

When I go into the BIOS menu though, it does register the 16GB ram.
So most likely there is an issue there.
I have had other laptops etc work fine with more than the max allowed memory - especially Dells.

But do you think this might have a cap somewhere built in? Via hardware or software?

So nothing I could do or try, you think? I am open to all and any suggestions.

You could try and talk to Lenovo. But they are more likely to want to sell you a whole new machine than help upgrade the old one.
My guess it is a BIOS issue. Maybe a bad memory map beyond 8GB.

Intel processors support 16GB DDR3 modules starting from Broadwell generation.
Previous generation (Haswell) support max 8GB per module.

Most probably, BIOS shows what is written in SPD.
