For a long time MemTest86 has been sold on a quality silk screen printed pre-made CD, which we shipped out to people via the post or FedEx. This saved people the hassle of writing their own CD from the ISO download. In the past it was also more complex to write an ISO to a CD, often requiring specialised 3rd party software.

However things have changed.
  • USB booting is now supported for all motherboard and has been for some time.
  • Optical drives are being phased out by the manufacturers, especially on light weight laptops and tablets.
  • The functionality to write an ISO to a CD/DVD is now built into Windows and is simple to use. Making it easy to create your own CD/DVD from a ISO download.
  • We have introduced functionality to write logs and test reports to disk from MemTest86. This is a great feature and works really well on a USB drive, but doesn't work at all from a read only CD.
  • USB drives are significantly faster to boot from compared to a CD.
  • Shipping & CD manufacturing costs go up, but bandwidth costs for downloads go down.


As a result of the above CD sales have plummeted over the last two years. At one point 20+ CDs were being sold a month. This is now down to selling 1 CD a month. (Yes just one sale of one CD per month).

As a result we are discontinuing the sale of pre-made CDs as of today.
