  • DiskCheckup thinks S.M.A.R.T. is not supported - Windows Vista

Why does DiskCheckup think that my hard drive doesn't support S.M.A.R.T.?
    The drive is WD3200BEVT-22ZCT0.

    From the DiskCheckupLog.txt:
    0.094s - SysInfo: SysInfoDll: 17:20:37 22-helmi-2015 - DeviceIoControl(IOCTL_STORAGE_QUERY_PROPERTY) succeeded:
    Vendor: "WDC WD32"
    Product: "00BEVT-22ZCT0"
    Revision: "11.0"
    Removable: No
    BusType: 0x08

    0.094s - SysInfo: SysInfoDll: 17:20:37 22-helmi-2015 - DeviceIoControl(IOCTL_SCSI_GET_ADDRESS) succeeded:

    0.094s - SysInfo: SysInfoDll: 17:20:37 22-helmi-2015 -
    Device address:
    Port # = 0
    Path ID = 0
    Target ID = 0
    LUN = 0

    0.109s - SysInfo: SysInfoDll: 17:20:37 22-helmi-2015 - Failed to get SMART Attributes.
    0.109s - SysInfo: SysInfoDll: 17:20:37 22-helmi-2015 - Device #0 does not support SMART

The machine (Acer Aspire 5536) has Vista SP2 dual boot with Linux Mint 17.1, and on linux smartmontools report S.M.A.R.T. data just fine. I can't check the bios settings, because this machine has one of those #%&* secure BIOSes. No such settings - no advanced settings tab at all. only info, passwords, boot orders and exit.

I'd attached the log file, but the uploader says the log file "DiskCheckupLog.txt" is invalid.

OK, I'l do it in the morning (it's 1:14 AM local time). Just one thing: could it be that windows is using the drive in AHCI-mode?
