  • Difference in small letters in gfx cards

hello, I'm looking for a gaming laptop.

MSI GX640, 740 or something else but when looking at the benchmark charts for high end gfx card i see many "almost same cards but big diff on rating"

    => Mobility radeon HD 5870 (rating =1273) or radeon HD 5870 (2717)

But especially the GTX460 gfx has many more:
    GeForce GTX 460M1,206,
    WinFast GTX 4602,590,
    GeForce GTX 4602,354,
    GeForce GTX 460 SE2,089,
and then there's something with SLi ( those U can set cards dual? means u can buy extra card for that?)
    - Can anyone explain the differences between all this?

    - What is most important when looking for gaming laptop?
I read the gfx card u should invest most, rest wont make that much difference - i7 vs i5 compared to good gfx card.( atm i play with inspiron 6400 and it has lot of troubles as u can imagine

    - What can be upgraded usually in laptop?
When I buy a not-integrated vid card, means I can always upgrade with anything? if I buy 2x2 gb Ram can I upgrade with 2x 8 or 2x 16 later if needed? guess Cpu can't be?

Ty for all yr patience for reading this

The Radeon HD 5870 is a large desktop video card. The Mobility 5870 is a small card for laptops. AMD shouldn't have given them the same model number.

Different manufacturers come out with different cards based on the same nVidia or AMD chips and then often name them slightly differently.

If you are just buying this for gaming, they can you get a desktop. You get more power for your dollar with a desktop. Laptops have heat problems with the high end video cards. Plus you can generally only upgrade the RAM in a laptop. I don't know of any laptop where you can upgrade the video card later on.

Tell her you are getting a blu-ray player, and then buy a PC in a media center box. And stick it under the TV. She'll never know what's inside.

No need to lie to her, she agrees on me buying a new laptop for gaming, that's already something to give back some respect on my side.

What ye think of the former list of laptops? any suggestions there?

Don't need to lie. Just need to give a good sales pitch

CPU is good. RAM is good.
Not sure about the video, as I am somewhat out of touch with the current best mobile video. But this is critical for a gaming laptop. So do some research.
Disk is OK (for a laptop). An SSD would be much faster but you are going to need the capacity of a traditional drive.
You might want to consider a blu-ray drive. They will be more or less standard in 12 months. You have a HDMI port on the machine, so you could connect the laptop up to your TV for movies / games.
