  • CD Read questions (and my score posting - 1772.7)

    Hello....
I've noticed a huge variation in scoring when it comes to CD Read scores (when looking at some of the baselines i have compared my system to). I'm trying to figure out how I can make mine faster (if possible). My DVD Burner is an Asus QuietTrack with SATA interface. my score ranges from sub 1 all the way up to 9 in change. The variations I have noticed in my own system are directly related to the type of disc I have in the drive. If i have a CD in there, I get horrible scores. DVDs are a different matter though. With some DVDs, I can get in the 9's, while others give me a 4 or 5 rating. So far, the best DVD I can have in the drive when doing the test is my Office Enterprise 2007 DVD from Microsoft. This particular disc yields the highest score for me. I've also noticed that if I run the CD Read test a second time immediately after running a first test (while the drive is still spinning) I get a better score (almost doubled in some cases).
I guess my question, for anyone who may care to answer, is why ??? Is the test supposed to behave like this? A final question for anyone reading this that may have a high CD read score........ what are you running to get an insanely high score? I've posted my results below:

Yes, the CD test results can vary depending on the media used. Using a CD with many small files will give a poor result. Using a DVD with a small number of large files will give a better result. This is normal. Large files can be read quicker as there is less seeking. We suggest people use standard discs, but of course not everyone does this.

1800 is a big result, but you have a high end quad core CPU that seems to be overclocked and a nice graphics card. So a big result is to be expected.

You should post your result to our database. See,
        http://www.cpubenchmark.net/overclocked_cpus.html
We don't have any examples of a overclocked X9650. It would make a good addition.

You can do this from the PerformanceTest menu item,
Baselines / Upload Baseline to Web.

updated score (2005.1) ....overclocked to 4.2GHz

Here are my latest scores. Got my system overclocked to 4.2 GHz now, and appears to be stable. could probably go higher, but i'm gonna ghost my system before tinkering with anything else to push it further (soem files became corrupt in windows during other bothed attempts during my overclocking endeavours). see below:

            tweaked numbers....

just read your posting in the forums about adjusting performance options in windows (advanced tab under system properties). wow!! my 2D numbers are not so bad now. the only thing i changed was this option (adjust for best performance) and ran the test again. i jumped by over 58 points! sweet!!

              Hello,
I've uploaded a few different baselines from slightly different configurations. I'm not seeing this processor listed in your CPU chart though. Is there a reason for that? Perhaps you only include "non-overclocked" CPUs there? Also, what is the top ten when you install baselines from the web? I thought the top ten was for overall score, no? If so, my baseline (BL8760) is not showing up there. My score should be showing up at number 9 i think (score of 2324) as it is higher than 2 scores that appear there right now. Also, if it goes by CPU, then i should appear there as well (cpu score is 5581.5) which beats out 4 of the ones listed in there right now. Anyway, I'm just curious as to how the top 10 get selected. Thanks, and have a happy holiday season.

At the moment I beleve this machine is #2 in the overclocked CPU chart.
                http://www.cpubenchmark.net/overclocked_cpus.html

and #10 in the overall charts
                http://www.passmark.com/baselines/topten.php

We were filtering results that had silly looking CD scores in the past (to filter out people using RAM disks as CD drvies). We raised the level a bit today, so this might be why you didn't initially appear.

We would prefer it is you only submitted results once. From time to time, we delete the duplicates that we come across that looks like it is from the same machine.

Ok, I understand. When I get back home, I can post in here the other basline numbers i uploaded so you guys can delete the older ones if you want. Also, the link for the top 10 u gave me is right on, however, what is the following list:
                  Current Top Ten List

                  #1 [Dual CPU] Intel Xeon X5365 @ 3.00GHz
                  #2 [Dual CPU] Intel Xeon X5355 @ 2.66GHz
                  #3 [Dual CPU] Intel Xeon E5345 @ 2.33GHz
                  #4 [Quad CPU] Dual-Core AMD Opteron 8218
                  #5 [Dual CPU] Intel Xeon E5320 @ 1.86GHz
                  #6 Intel Core2 Quad @ 2.93GHz

                  #10 [Dual CPU] Intel Xeon 5150 @ 2.66GHz

This one is on the same page as the graphs for all the CPUs (linked from your thread on How do I push my PC to the bleeding edge?). This was the top ten list i was referring to. Until you sent that link for this different top ten, I didn't even know that page existed. Thanks again. After the holidays, I'll be pushing this machine more. Hope I don't break anything. hahaha. Happy Holidays!

I think that is the current top CPU list for non overclocked machines. As you are overclocking, you in the overclocking list and not in the normal list.
