  • performance lower than similar CPUs

    Hey there,

I've analyzed the performance charts for the CPUs and just bought a Intel Q8300 processor: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_look...00+%40+2.50GHz

My Q8300 is slower than any other Q8300(even Generic Intel Core2 Quad Q8300@2.5Ghz). For CPU Mark, my Q8300 gets 2761 points but the generic similar quads get 2999, 3019 or even 3766 points. Please note that the quads I've tested with weren't overclocked(they had 2498Mhz and 2509Mhz in the CPU Speed column).

    The System tab:

    The Cpu tab:

Should I RMA this CPU and get another? I'd really like to get the same performance or even higher to Generic Q8300's from that test because I have a very good motherboard: EP45-DS3.

    Thanks

You are comparing your 32bit machine with a mix of 32bit and 64bit machines. The 64bit machines will give better results in the CPU test.

Your images didn't contain all the individual CPU results. But most gave exactly the expected result. So I think this CPU is OK. The one you were down on slightly was the Prime number test. This might be a one off low result and if you repeat the test, it might be better. (e.g. there might have been a brackgronud task using the CPU when this test was run).

The "Generic" results you are refering to just mean that the person who submitted the result didn't give the machine a brand name, maybe becuase they built the system themselves. It in no way implies that the machine was made from low performing parts.

      Factory Overclocked?

I have a new computer that has a Core i7 920 2.67GHZ processor. The clock speed is over 100MHZ higher than the factory speed coming in at around 2794MHZ on the BIT CPU Benchmark and also PC Wizard. Is this ok? I know people purposely overclock their processors. Does this effect any of the BIT or Performance test? Is this within an acceptable range from the manufacturer?

The new i7 and i5 CPUs have turbo mode and overclock themselves to a limited extent when running on 1 or 2 cores.
