  • Extremely low DirectX 9 (Complex) test score - any ideas why?

    Hi all,

    I have a Dell Optiplex 755, with Core 2 Quad Q6600, 3GB Pc2-5300 RAM and a Radeon HD5670 (1GB).

Every time I do performance test benchmark, I get extremely low test score in DirectX 9 (complex) - sometimes as low as 8FPS!

The baseline in question is number 36933

I've compared it to many other Radeon HD 5670 baselines and it's a lot lower in this test specifically. The screenshot below shows it compared to other systems with same CPU and Graphics Card, and which are running 64-bit Windows:

As you can see, it's very low fopr DX9 (complex). Even my old HD5450 gets a higher score.

I've tried installing several different drivers from AMD, to no avail.

Any help you give is appreciated.

    Many thanks.

    Gareth

    The CPU results look OK.

So do the rest of the 3D results and the RAM benchmark. CPU & GPU temperatures also appear OK. So I don't think it is a general hardware problem.

The only strange thing I saw in this baseline file was that you have two active video cards. You have a HD5670 and a Intel Q35 GMA 3100. So *maybe* the DX9 test is somehow running on this Intel video chip? Or maybe it is causing DirectX compatibility issues.

Can you disable the onboard GMA 3100 video in BIOS and try again (assuming you aren't actually using it for a 2nd monitor).

      Hmmm, that's a good point.

Nope, not using it for a 2nd monitor or anything like that.

The monitor (plugged into the Radeon card) displays the DX9 test, so I presume it couldn't be running on the Intel Integrated graphics?

I've looked in the bios, and there is no option to completely disable the integrated graphics. There is an "Auto" setting which claims to disable the integrated graphics if a PCI-Express card is inserted (which it is).

Will have to play around with it a bit more, wil let you know...

      Thanks

The average result of people who had the E8200 and the HD 6850 in the DirectX 9 complex test was, 59 frames /sec.

You score of 48 is 18% below the average, but this isn't nearly as dramatic as the initial poster's problem. Someone has to be below the average.

In the screen shot you posted above, the 60+ FPS results were with a better CPU than what you have.

The initial poster's had 1 score that was 80% down on the average, but all the other scores for the other tests around the average. So I am thinking the initial poster had a different issue from yours.

Yes I know, his problem is a little bit bigger.

Here is test with different cpus.

Still dont know why dual core with 1.8ghz is better then E8200.OC to 3.45Ghz. 6mb cache.

Can I do anything to increase that score. All other scores are in average.

When runing DX 9 Complex, Im runing it in 4x multisample. There is HAL (hv-vp) HD 6800 series on screen. Is this correct.

Can settings in Catalyst have any impact on Performance test?

            Will try different settings.

and BTW This software is great.

Yep, Morphological filtering is the problem for lower score.

I turned it off, and Im getting average

I wonder if the the Morphological filtering setting was also the problem garmcqui had?

Could be. I wanted to send him a message, but his settings dont allow me.

I'm having the same problem with a considerable drop in DX9 Complex performance, expet with an Nvidia card. I too have tried various drivers etc to no avail.

Are you sure your overlocked CPU isn't overheating and throttling down?

Your result isn't that low for a GTX 580 and mid range CPU.

You are comparing it to baseline #47688. But #47688 is running in SLI mode with dual GTX 580 cards.

I'm fairly sure the CPU isn't throttling, it's been through 5 or 6 hours of Prime95. I hadn't noticed that the comparison was to a dual card system, so in that case it's not surprising to see that different result!

I seem to have a similar problem to the OP

the direct 9 tests and following from that the 3d mark is abysmal in comparison with similar systems as are some 2d values

                              my system:
                              asus p8p67

                              geforce 660 ti
                              16 gb ddr3 ram
samsung ssd 830 for windows and games + 2 storage harddisks

                              driver version 9.18.13.1422

in 2d the direct 2d and windows interface tests seemed sub par as well

Initially I thought it was a gpu problem and I even got a new one returned on RMA but the problem persists.

I tried rerolling the drivers (current and last working iteration), reinstalling windows and frankly Im at a loss as to what the problem might be .. any suggestions?

edit: after some more work i found that switching to the other PCI express slot of my motherboard fixed the problem - i feel a tad foolish and still puzzled but if u have similar problems and no idea what to do u might want to give it a try
