  • PerformanceTest crashes while running DX9 test on Windows 11

    We received an report of PerformanceTest V10 crashing when running the DirectX V9 (DX9) test ONLY after a certain update for Windows 11 (KB5012643 - 25/April /2022).
    Crash seems to occur on certain system configurations.

    All other tests (DirectX10,11 & 12) run without error.

    User's config:
    Intel Pentium Gold G7400
    Gigabyte B660M DS3H DDR4
    UHD Graphics 710
    16GB DDR4-3200

    Stack Trace from crash dump:
    d3d9on12!D3D12TranslationLayer::ImmediateContext:: MapUnderlying+0x5a
    d3d9on12!D3D12TranslationLayer::ImmediateContext:: MapUnderlyingSynchronize+0x7e
    d3d9on12!D3D12TranslationLayer::ImmediateContext:: MapDynamicTexture+0x569
    So the crash occurs in a function called,. "CalculateMinimumRowMajorRowPitch" which is in the DLL, d3d9on12.dll. Which is a file from Microsoft.

    d3d9on12.dll seems to be a library which maps graphics commands from D3D9 to D3D12.

    If anyone else is getting similar crashes when running the DX9 test, please let us know.
    If it isn't a one off problem, we can attempt to report the issues to Microsoft.

    I'm getting a similar issue.

    Ryzen 5900X,
    RTX 3070

      It looks like there is a potential issue with the Windows update, "After installing this update, Windows devices that use certain GPUs might cause apps to close unexpectedly or cause intermittent issues that affect some apps that use Direct3D 9 You might also receive an error in Event Log in Windows Logs/Applications, and the faulting module is d3d9on12.dll and the exception code is 0xc0000094".

      This should have been addressed in KB5014019 (May 24, 2022).

      Pretty unbelievable that Microsoft would release a patch knowing in advance it would crash people's computers.

        Hi, have the same problem with Passmark 10.2 on this machine:
        - AMD Ryzen 5 4600G & NVIDIA 1650 (driver 516.94) , Passmark stops at DX9 test
        - same machine with removed NVIDIA graphics card is working well (using integrated AMD GFX)
        Edition Windows 11 Home
        Version 21H2
        Installiert am ‎05.‎10.‎2021
        Betriebssystembuild 22000.918
        Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22000.918.0
        any workaround available?
        Greetings, ByteKnight

          Check for updates for your system.

          If the crash dump from PerformanceTest, you can send it in, and we can take a look. However, if it the same issue as the original post, this was/will be addressed by Windows update, refer to the above Knowledge Base links.

          Other possibility is if you are running any screen capture or GUI overlay programs. It is recommended to disable them before running the benchmark.

            [QUOTE=Richard (PassMark);n53481]Check for updates for your system.

            --> Everything is up-to-date
            I've exchanged the NVIDIA 1650 by a AMD RX6400 on the same system and it is working now
            So it must be something with NVIDIA driver (internal gfx and AMD gfx is working flawless on the same system)
