  • Put Together Intels New Core 2 Duo need help tweaking!

I'm building one of these new Intels. I've got what I believe is a fairly good score but I sure could use some tweaking. First, how do I improve the Hard drive and DVD. I could really raise my score if I could make my drives work a lot better. Here's my Data:

    Intel D975XBX Motherboard
    Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6700 2.66Ghz, 4Mb L2 Cache, 1066Mhz FSB
    Kingston Hyper X PC28000 1066Mhz DDR2, 2Gb
    Seagate ST32508223AS 250Gb SATA 3.0Gbs Hard Drive
LG GSA-H10 16X DVD Dual Double Layer RW
XFX GeForce 7900 GTX 512Mb PCI Express 665Mhz DDR# Graphics Controller

I have been in the Low Voltage Field for 25 years. Now I am specializing in the Video Surveillance field. I assemble all my DVR's using only PC based systems. I will be happy to answer any questions when I have time. Good Day!

HD results look OK. Close to 60MB/sec read & write. Which is not too bad.

For the CD test, use a CD (or DVD) with a small number of really large files on it for testing. Lots of small files means more seeking and a lower read speed.

In reference to your test results I also have Dual Core but its AMD and my results ?

I jut got a Dual Core AMD 4200+ and my scores suck.. Do I need to mess with the BIOS settings.

Cordless, all the results look OK. Except for the hard disk result, which is low.

If you are planning on spending any time or money on optimization or upgrades this is where I would focus my attention.

          Work in progress

I changed my hard drive now. Above I was using a standard SATA drive. Now I put a new WD 10K SATA drive in. Its getting better!

          CPU mark 1540.4
          2D Graphics mark 952.0
          Memory mark 695.1
          Disk mark 562.4
          CD mark 1139.9
          3D Graphics mark 885.6
          PassMark rating 995.6

My next step is to get rid of the Intel D975X motherboard. To my chagrin I found Intel does not support NVidia SLi. I have 2 7900GTX.

What would you recommend as the best motherboard for Sli and tweakability?

I have an obsession to get the best rating. The only problem is I cannot afford those 15K SAS drives. So I am going to use the WD 10K SATA drives. Next I will set them up in RAID.

I too notice posted on your board 2D rectagles causing a problem. My new NVidia drivers has done the same to me. Any fix/

          Thanks
          Keith
