  • need some advice or referral concerning my memtest86 results

Well i have been getting some crashes and instability so i ran the newest memtest86 on usb while i was away at work and obtained a big red FAIL in box and while i can run linux
and have SOME technical ability so i can tell from the logs that this does not look good i thought i would ask if someone who knows this program and its log entries would give me an opinion
on the logs that were dumped in the memtest86 thumbdrive so i can make a decision as to whether or not to replace the cpu, ram or both! OK now i managed to upload the logs but not the html
summary i hope this is enough. Any help would be appreciated especially if an admin could look at this.

There are a lot of errors in those log files. So definitely a hardware failure (or bad BIOS settings such as voltage levels and RAM timings)

See this page to start with
    https://www.memtest86.com/troubleshooting.htm

thanks i guess i will have to do a bit more studying and research to find out what is going on. At least the test results are a start. Funny this seemed to start happening recently so i suspect
hardware failure but maybe not we shall see. If there was a way to upload the html file maybe it would help.

You should be able to copy paste the report into the forum. Example in this post.
Uploading as a Zip or JPG is also possible.

Allowing any random HTML upload is problematic from a security point of view.

80% of the time the first step is to remove half the RAM and re-test. Then try the other half. Then replace all the RAM.

Well i cut to the chase, did an upgrade to 2 sticks of ram which upgraded from 16 to 32 gigs of ram, ran memtest86 and well after tweaking and using xmp (which IS supported by my ram)
i obtained NO errors after a full run of memtest86. What an improvement ! So yeah i probably have a bum stick of ram. Finding out which one can wait for a rainy day (we have plenty of them
where i live so no worries). My dual boot windows 10 as well as my win10 virtual machine also are working well too with no errors (they would not install some software updates and were unstable as well)

This was my Old test result:
