  • [ECC Errors Detected] is only shown with a i3-7100T, not with a Xeon E3-1245 v5

    Hello,
i want to upgrade my Server CPU with a Xeon E3-1245 v5. Currently I'm using:
    MB: Supermicro X11SSM-F (BIOS 2.2/2.7)
    CPU: Intel i3-7100T
    RAM: 4x 16GB

During the test with Memtest86 10.3 Pro, I successfully got the [ECC Inject] message followed by an [ECC Errors Detected] message. At the end of test, I get a summary how many ECC erros haven been successfuly corrected.
Now I replaced the Intel i3-7100T with the Xeon E3-1245 v5, run the same test, but I only receive the [ECC Inject] message, without the [ECC Errors Detected] message.
Both CPUs are capable of ECC detection, but why isn't it working with the Xeon?

Can you try the latest build, V10.5
    https://www.memtest86.com/whats-new.html

And if it doesn't help, then send the debug log file.

I tried it with v10.5, same result. Log is attached to this post. I tried it with one DIMM to keep it simple.

        Thanks for the logs.

It appears that ECC injection may have been disabled on the E3-1245 v5, which is why ECC errors weren't detected.
More often than not, this is the case for most systems that support ECC injection as the functionality is disabled in production:
        https://www.memtest86.com/ecc.htm#inject_memtest86

However, we are curious to see the logs for the i3-7100T as it appears that the ECC injection functionality is enabled and working as expected.
It is rare to see ECC injection enabled on a relatively newer Intel system.

Unfortunately I only have the html report, hope this is sufficient.

That seems true. Fortunately, I was able to approve the ECC Corretion with the Xeon by testing the syringe method on pin 4&5 of the DIMM. I was recieving ECC errors during the Memtest run that were corrected by the system.

FYI: We've got an ECC Tester interposer that can safely test DDR4 ECC RAM.
