  • How Bad is This and What do I do next?

This is bad, right? What do I need to fix or do I just need new memory sticks?

    How Bad is This
    It's bad.

Try with one the stick at a time. Or just replace them both.

    See also this page

Note: This is yet again a problem with Corsair RAM.

Thank you for your response. I replaced the RAM and still got this:

I may end up getting something other than Corsair if this is a known issue.

I note that you have replaced the RAM with identical RAM (same model). I also note you aren't running the RAM at it's full speed (2133 instead of 3600MT/sec). Which should in theory make it more stable.

Because it is easy I would check for BIOS updates, sometimes they get the RAM voltage or timings wrong.

If I had RAM from a different vendor available I would try that. Then maybe different RAM slots.

But after that you need to consider it might be a bad CPU or motherboard.

I updated the BIOS, enabled XMP, and did another test. Failed. Do you have any brand recommendations for RAM?

            Crucial, Kingston, G-Skill.
Might not be the RAM however, you'd have to unlucky to get two bad Corsair sets.

Thank you for being so helpful.

So I'm looking at Processor or Motherboard huh sigh.

Side Note: I went to Asus site and my specific model of RAM is not listed on their recommended. Not sure how likely that is the problem.

I went to Asus site and my specific model of RAM is not listed on their recommended
In 20 years of PC building I've never once used those lists. They are rarely maintained and model numbers are often old and parts unavailable. So it shouldn't be a problem.
Corsair do offer a good warranty program for their RAM. So if you do get to the point of being sure it is the RAM, they will replace it for free.
Do you have another PC to test the RAM in?

Have you heard of anyone with my board or processor having issues with gaming?
Those as common parts. ASUS is a big manufacturer. They have probably sold millions of Z790 motherboards. So if you search for gaming problems with ASUS motherboards there will be 1000s of hits, not because they are all bad, but just because they are so common. Same for Intel i5 CPU.

As a home user without access to high end test equipment and deep knowledge of memory bus timing diagrams, memory controllers and RAM construction, you really have no chance of finding the true root cause. So it is mostly about trial and error with swapping components in and out, until you narrow down the problem.

So, I changed out my CPU and failed again. Good news, my game doesn't crash anymore. It will freeze up and then proceed without crashing - still not good for those nights of doing a Raid.

In the process, I found out the person who put together my PC accidently left on some of the plastic. sigh. It has been removed and I upgraded my CPU. NExt in the list, I'm assuming, is the motherboard. Any final thoughts before I go that route?

It really does look like a RAM error from the test report.
It's just hard to believe you had two sets of RAM with very similar faults.

I note the new RAM and the old RAM have identical part numbers, so I assume they also look identical. Are you sure they got swapped?

                        Yep, swapped it out myself.

WOW - you were right. I swapped them out for another brand that we had in another PC and 100% pass with no errors. Dang!

I will be switching to G Skill

Glad you got it sorted out.

Now that it is stable you can experiment in optimising the performance.
At the moment you are using 2133MT/sec in BIOS. You might be able to turn on XMP and get to 3600MT/sec. (Mega-transfers per second)
